Roselyn Akombe Reveals Shocking Details About Chebukati to BBC

Former IEBC Commissioner on Tuesday evening revealed gravy matters at the Wafula Chebukati led commission that might cripple the possibility of free repeat elections.

In an interview with the BBC’s News Day program Mrs Akombe said that the Commission is under siege, adding that Mr Chebukati, despite his ability, may not satisfactorily deliver a credible election.
“Mr Chebukati is a very able leader, he is a temperament leader; but he is a leader who is under siege in the commission,” she said.

Mrs Akombe exposed that Mr Chebukati, however, is not a from leader at the crucial commission, putting the question of him being influenced in decision-making by political class in sharp focus.
“If he was much more firm, I think he could have gone much far, but there are characters in him which ought to be helpful as at this point. So there are times, you just need firmness to be able to move on,” she told the BBC, hours after tendering her resignation at IEBC.

Mrs Akombe expressed fears that as much as the Commission is ready to hold repeat polls, the outcome of the p[polls would not be credible, owing to the [political interference ongoing at the IEBC.

“If it is just holding the election, yes, the commission can hold an election. Would it be credible, my response is: absolutely not. There is a very high likelihood that the mistakes that were committed by presiding officers during the August 8 polls could be repeated.

She added: “If you are dealing with an election in which half of the country is not going to be participating in, can you have an environment that the credible election will not be possible?”
Ms Akombe has also revealed that Raila Odinga’s team has been intimidating the preparations of elections, the latest being sending a group of youth to disrupt a meeting aimed at training the Returning Officers in Nyanza region, which was forced to be put on hold.

She revealed that both Nasa and Jubilee have been sending threatening messages to her, even after the murder of former ICT Manager Chris Msando, who was killed nine days to the August 8 polls. She expressed frustrations over the state of security of the Commissioners at the polls agency.
Ms Akombe has said that she will not be coming back to Kenya as she feels unsafe being around.
