Uhuru’s Last Minute Decision That Surprised Jubilee Leaders

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday surprised Jubilee leaders who had accompanied him at the Bomas of Kenya where he received his certificate from IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.
When it became clear that Kenyatta was going to be declared President on Monday afternoon, the President’s handlers arrived at Bomas and security beefed up.

A special stage was also put up outside the auditorium and the red carpet rolled. After the President had received his certificate, his official podium was placed next to the platform which suggested he would be making an address soon.

Jubilee leaders who included MPs, Governors, Senators, and other public servants gathered around the set stage while the head of state and his Deputy William Ruto remained in the VIP tent that had been set up nearby.

A few minutes to seven, the presidential motorcade started clearing way at the congested Bomas of Kenya grounds as Jubilee leaders were informed that Kenyatta and Ruto would not be making the much-awaited celebratory address.

The red carpet and the presidential podium were quickly whisked away as the presidential entourage left Bomas, accompanied by the Deputy President and the two speakers of Parliament.

Some of the sources aware of the President’s communication indicated that the President had decided to hold all manner of celebration until all the legal hurdles facing his presidency are cleared.

Activist Okiya Omtatah had moved to the Supreme Court last Friday, even before the results of the repeat election were announced.

The petition has already been admitted by the Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court who directed that the all presidential candidates be served by this Thursday and brought for mention on November 10th.
